Catfish Too Much for Hoots to Handle

Arras continues impressive start to season in loss

Cape Girardeau, Mo. — Looking to build on their first win of the season, the O’Fallon Hoots (1-4) traveled south to visit the Cape Catfish (5-0) in a rematch of last week’s Opening Night. Cape jumped out to a lead in the first inning and never looked back, defeating O’Fallon 14-0.

 Inside the Box Score

  • Angelo Luna and Tyson Ludwig provided the only hits on the night for the Hoots.
  • Noah Arras allowed one run in his single inning of relief.

How It Happened

  • The Catfish struck first in the first inning, when Jeff Clarke tripled to score Chris Hall. Clarke would cross home while O’Fallon was attempting to catch Justin Carinci stealing. Then Carinici would score on a Brody Chrisman RBI double, and Chrisman represented Cape’s final run of the inning thanks to some nifty baserunning. By the time the second inning rolled around, the Catfish were on top 4-0.
  • More Cape offense came in the third inning. With runners on the corners, Dee Triplett doubled to drive one run in. Another run scored when Kevin McCarthy grounded out to second base. Triplett eventually rounded the bases as well on a Quinton Borders RBI single. At the end of three, the score was 7-0 in favor of Cape.
  • In the fourth inning, Chrisman hit a three-run homerun to increase the Catfish lead, 10-0.
  • Cape tagged on three more runs in the fifth. Carinci singled to score Borders before Hayden Nazarenus drove in two with his own single.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, Clarke was hit by a pitch to move everybody over one and push Borders across home plate, setting the score at 14-0.
  • With the Hoots failing to score in the top of the seventh, and trailing the Catfish by 10-plus runs, the run rule was put into effect, ending the game with a Cape win.
