Hoots Defeat CornBelters, 4-1

Hoots fueled by early scoring to give them the edge over Normal

The O’Fallon Hoots avoid losing their third straight at home with a 4-1 victory over the Normal CornBelters.

Action got started immediately at CarShield Field when Ryan Stevens and Henry Zenor led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and double. Baden Hackworth then sent an RBI single to right field to put O’Fallon in front.

Shortly after Hackworth’s RBI hit, the Hoots executed a double steal to perfection, which allowed Zenor to give the Hoots a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Kade Wood would double to the top of the center field wall and score Hackworth giving O’Fallon an early 3-0 lead.

O’Fallon tacked onto their lead in the fourth inning when Maury Weaver led off the inning with a double to left center field. After back to back strikeouts and the top of the order, Baden Hackworth sent in his second RBI of the night on a broken bat infield single, making the score 4-0.

In the seventh inning, Normal would score their lone run of the ball game when Christopher Suchoski reached on an error by Hoots third basemen Justin Simard. Normal was able to load the bases with one out when right fielder Will Jesske grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice lessening the deficit to three runs.

O’Fallon’s bullpen would keep the CornBelters bats silent for the remainder of the game resulting in a 4-1 victory for the Hoots.

Brady Coon earns the victory for the Hoots moving to 3-0 on the season. Drake Downing is charged with the loss and Sam Cardwell earns his first save of the season. With the victory, the Hoots move to 13-9 on the season while Normal drops to 10-12.

The Hoots are back in action at home on Tuesday, June 25th against the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes with first pitch coming your way at 6:35 p.m.
