Hoots Pick Up First Win of 2023

Springfield, IL- The O’Fallon Hoots (1-3) faced the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (3-2) at Robin Roberts Stadium on Sunday, June 4th. In their second of four consecutive road games, The Hoots offense paved the way as O’Fallon won their first game of the 2023 season, 12-4.

Inside The Box Score

  • O’Fallon outhit Springfield 10-3.
  • Jack Meyer led the Hoots with three hits on the night.
  • Ethan Rossow drove in three runs.
  • Braedon Stoakes and Meyer both drove in two runs each.
  • Jack DuMont pitched four scoreless innings while striking out four Springfield batters.

How it Happened

  • The Hoots opened the game with four runs scored in the first inning. Matthew Arnold and Michael Long each drove in a run with an RBI single. Tyson Ludwig plated two runs on a single of his own. 
  • Rossow walked in the top of the third inning with bases loaded to score Arnold from third base as the Hoots extended their lead to 5-0
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Springfield got on the scoreboard as Brayden Smith hit a two-run double that scored Cade Dufflin and William Zareh to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
  • Meyer provided insurance in the top of the sixth inning as he singled to bring home Stoakes and Maloy Heaghney; pushing the Hoots lead to 7-1
  • The Lucky Horseshoes had their biggest inning in the bottom of the seventh as Daedrick Cail reached on an error that allowed Smith to score. Ty Rhodes grounded out into a fielder’s choice that scored Trent Koehler as Springfield cut the O’Fallon lead to 7-4.
  • The Hoots responded in the top of the eighth inning with Heaghney walking with bases loaded, bringing in Meyer to score from third base. Stoakes delivered two more as he reached first on an error that allowed Rossow and Ludwig to both score, pushing the lead to 11-3.
  • O’Fallon tallied one more run in the top of the ninth inning as they walked with bases loaded for the third time in the ballgame. Rossow drew the walk that brought home Meyer from third, as the Hoots finished off their 12-4 victory.

The Hoots continue their road trip, traveling to play the Cape Catfish at Capaha Field on Monday, June 5th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
