Late Comeback Comes Up Short Versus Alton

Hoots fall one run short of completing four-run comeback

The O’Fallon Hoots drop their second straight home game tonight to the Alton River Dragons by a final score of 4-3.

The action got started early in the game when Joe Connolly reached base to lead off the game on an error and scored on a double play turned by the Hoots.

In the fourth inning, Eli Hill sent a line drive to left field that dropped in despite a spectacular effort by Baden Hackworth. Jordan Aguallo would score on the single and extend the Alton lead to 2-0.

In the 7th inning, Dane Stevenson reached base to start the inning on a base on balls. He later scored on a double steal to make the score 3-0 in favor of the River Dragons.

Alton would tack on one more run in the 8th on an Erik Broekemeier base hit.

The Hoots got the offense going in the bottom of the 8th inning when Kade Wood and Ryan Stevens got on base. Wood scored on an error and back to back doubles from Henry Zenor and Hackworth which made the score 4-3. Strikeouts from Bryson Lofton and Andy Niebrugge preserved the River Dragons lead.

In the bottom of the 9th, Will Briggs led off the inning with a single and advanced to 2nd on a stolen base. Alton relief pitcher Bryce Louis was able to strike out Kade Wood for a big out number two. Pinch hitter Justin Simard popped out to conclude the ball game.

With the loss, Alton jumps to 10-11 on the young season and O’Fallon falls to 12-9.

The Hoots are back at home on Saturday night to face off against the Normal Cornbelters with first pitch coming your way at 6:35 p.m.
