Lofton Shines in Hoots Doubleheader Sweep of Alton

The Hoots move to first place in the second half standings in the South Division with two victories over Alton.

The O’Fallon Hoots complete the doubleheader sweep against the Alton River Dragons winning by final scores of 6-4 and 4-3.

In game one, the Hoots got the scoring started when Bryson Lofton hit a ground rule double to left field giving O’Fallon a 2-0 lead.

After Alton took a 3-2 lead in the third, the Hoots responded when Jack Meyer hit a two run homer to make the score 4-3.

O’Fallon would add insurance in the seventh inning with back to back home runs from Baden Hackworth and Lofton.

Christian Harvey earned the victory for the Hoots and Tanner Paschke was credited with the loss.

Game two was much more of a pitcher’s duel and Matthew Brown and Brayden Rubel battled during the first five innings.

The Hoots took a lead in the third, scoring an unearned run on an error from River Dragons third basemen Cooper Howell.

Brayden Rubel would carry a no hit bid into the fifth inning when shortstop Dane Stevenson hit a long solo shot to even the score at one.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Michael Gould would lead off the inning with a triple. That was followed by a Hackworth walk to put runners at the corners for Lofton. Lofton would sky a three run home run to left field to give the Hoots a 4-1 lead.

Alton wouldn’t go down without a fight. In the top of the seventh, they managed to load the bases and cut the deficit to one run. With the River Dragons down to their final out, Owen Schneider would strike out Joe Connoly to secure the victory for the Hoots.

Schneider earns the victory and Matthew Brown is given the loss. The Hoots jump to 6-1 in the second half and 23-12 overall. Meanwhile, the River Dragons fall to 3-5 in the second half and 16-18 overall.

Bryson Lofton combines to go six for seven with two home runs, three doubles, and six RBI’s in the two games.

O’Fallon is back at home on Thursday hosting Alton once again with first pitch coming your way at 6:35pm.
