Subbert Throws Three Perfect in Relief, Hoots Fall to REX Baseball
The O’Fallon Hoots (22-26) returned home on Monday evening for the first time in nine days. After the long road trip, the home crowd enjoyed Christmas in July night at the ballpark. With Santa Hats, Holiday Trivia, and REX Baseball on the menu, the Hoots looked to build on a comeback victory over the Quincy Gems on Sunday.
The Hoots turned the ball over to Alfred Ulloa (East Central), who was making his seventh start of the season. Ulloa’s first inning was just three pitches to record the three outs. He also sent down the REX Baseball hitters in order in the second.
REX recorded a big third inning, capped off with a David Miller (University of St. Francis) two-run home run to dead center. REX scored six runs in the frame and tacked on one more in the fourth.
The Hoots didn’t go down quietly, though. In the sixth, Cade Hohl (Purdue) drilled a double into right-center with the bases loaded, scoring Jack Dunn (Mineral Area) and Zak Hartleb (University of Illinois). Jake McCutcheon (Missouri State) also scored on a wild pitch in the frame.
Carson Subbert (Lindenwood) completed three perfect innings in relief of Alfred Ulloa. Subbert struck out four batters and threw 30 pitches with just four balls. Subbert’s Lindenwood teammate Ambrose Russo clubbed a solo home run in the seventh inning over the big CarShield Field wall.
When all was said and done, REX led on the scoreboard by a score of 8-4. The Hoots next home game will be this upcoming Thursday against the Cape Catfish with the game starting at 6:35 at CarShield Field. Tickets are available at ofallonhoots.com and at the CarShield Field box office.
