Quincy, IL- The O’Fallon Hoots traveled to Quincy for a matchup with the Doggy Paddlers in which the Hoots won 10-8. William Zareh and Nick Bonckowski accounted for nine of the ten runs leading to the win.
The scoring started early for Quincy as a two-run home run in the first inning by Brodie Short was followed by back-to-back walks with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, doubling the Doggy Paddler lead. The Hoots bats woke up in the fourth as Bonczkowski drove home Tyler Macon setting up Zareh for a big at-bat.
Zareh capitalized, hitting a three-run homer to tie the game at four. Two more runs came across between the 5th and 6th innings before Quincy tied things up in that same sixth inning.
Zareh and Bonczkowski went to work again in the eighth inning as Zareh drove in another run and Bonczkowski scored on a wild pitch. Then in the ninth, Bonczkowski struck yet again as he drove home John Connors with an RBI double.
Those two runs proved costly as Quincy would put up two more runs in the bottom of the ninth before Carter Perry shut the door on the Paddlers, finishing the 10-8 win.
The Hoots improve to 9-5 in the second half of the season and to 25-16 overall. They come home to Carshield Field for a three-game homestand, starting with the Terre Haute REX on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m.
