Alton, IL – After clinching a spot in the Prospect League Playoffs, the O’Fallon Hoots kept their winning ways alive on Friday night against the Alton River Dragons. The Hoots beat the River Dragons 5-1 at Lloyd Hopkins Field in Illinois.
The Hoots scored their first run in the third inning when shortstop Nick Alagna hit left fielder Colton Kossuth in with a sac fly, making it 1-0. In the top of the fourth, another sac fly (this time from Carson Shear) scored Nick Bonczkowski. Kossuth doubled to bring home William Zareh and Jaiden Glency’s single scored Myles Kruger.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bryce Duszak singled home Adam Hanan for Alton, making it 5-1. While playing in the sixth inning, the game was delayed for lightning and weather in the area at 8:17 p.m. A half hour later at 8:47 p.m. the game was called in favor of the Hoots in six innings, marking a 5-1 victory for O’Fallon.
O’Fallon reliever Carter Perry earned the win (his third of the season) after he earned six outs in 33 pitches between Tanner Sullivan’s start and Noah Jones’ relief appearance in which he struck out two River Dragons. Alton starter Landon Sitze was tagged with the loss despite pitching five innings.
The Hoots will play their final game of the regular season against the Normal CornBelters on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at CarShield Field.
