Cape Girardeau, MO – The O’Fallon Hoots will not continue their journey in the 2026 Prospect League Playoffs after the Cape Catfish defeated them 17-7 in eight innings at Capaha Field on Sunday night.
The Catfish poured in seven runs in the first two innings. Later on, Cape added five runs in the sixth inning, one run in the seventh inning and four in the eighth inning. The game ended in a mercy rule win for the Catfish when first baseman Cornelius Wouters hit a home run to right field in the eighth inning, scoring himself and Pete Britton to make it 17-7.
Shortstop Samuel Paule totaled two hits for the Hoots and second baseman Nick Steurer hit a triple. Catfish starter Colin Muldoon won the game with four innings of work. Muldoon allowed three runs and qualified for the win because the game finished in eight innings. Hoots starter Drew Politte was tagged with the loss after he pitched just one inning and allowed five runs.
O’Fallon ends the season with an overall record of 34-22. The Hoots qualified for the postseason by going 19-10 in the second half of the season. The team finished 15-11 in the first half. Hoots fans can stay up to date with the offseason on ofallonhoots.com.
