O’Fallon, MO– The Hoots hosted the Normal Cornbelters for the first time this season and fell by a final score of 11-9. The offense started early as Normal got out to a early 3-2 lead after two innings and never looked back.
The game came down to starting pitching as Jack Moore took the bump against Alec Bergman for Normal. Moore allowed three runs before Evan Abercrombie came in and allowed four more. With the Score 7-2, the Hoots offense got to work making it 7-5 quickly.
Alex Jung came in relief of Abercrombie and was dominant, going 4 innings while striking out 7 batters. O’Fallon brought it within a run late, but a big 3-run top of the 8th inning for the Cornbelters made it a four-run deficit for the Hoots.
Two runs came across to score in the bottom of the 8th for the Hoots, but it was not enough as they went down 1-2-3 in the ninth, putting a final on this one.
O’Fallon travels to Burlington to face the Bees for a two-game series before hosting Normal yet again on Sunday, June 7th.
