O’Fallon Soars to the top of the Prospect League with a dominant series sweep of the Alton River Dragons.
The O’Fallon Hoots defeat the Alton River Dragons by a final score of 17-7 in eight innings completing the series sweep.
Thursday evening’s contest was scoreless through three and a half innings of play thanks to excellent pitching from starters Christian Pownall and Gavin Kinworthy.
The Hoots would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when Jack Meyer doubled in two runs. O’Fallon would continue to pour the offense on with an RBI double from Michael Gould and an RBI single from Kyle Byrne. Tyler Lang and Maurey Weaver would then tag back to back home runs to complete the seven run inning.
The River Dragons would respond in the top of the fifth with a combination of clutch hitting and poor Hoots defense, which would result in O’Fallon’s lead decreasing to two runs.
The Hoots would add on in the sixth inning. Baden Hackworth’s two run double and Jack Meyer’s RBI single would lead O’Fallon to an 11-5 lead.
After the River Dragons scored two to cut the deficit to four, O’Fallon would complete the sweep a bit earlier than planned in the eighth. An RBI single from Hackworth, a Meyer RBI double, and a Weaver two run double would pave the way to a six run inning putting the ten run rule in effect.
Relief pitcher Camron Poe is credited with the win and Kinworthy is charged with the loss for Alton.
O’Fallon now moves to 24-12 on the season and 7-1 in the second half of play. The Hoots overall record is tied for the best in the Prospect League and their second half record sits alone at the top. Alton drops to 16-19 overall and 3-6 in the second half.
The Hoots are back in action on Friday night on the road for a doubleheader against the Normal CornBelters. They’re back at home on Saturday evening hosting the Cape Catfish with first pitch coming your way at 6:35pm.
