O’Fallon’s South Division lead grows with split doubleheader decision against Springfield
The O’Fallon Hoots split a seven inning doubleheader with the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes by final scores of 10-3 and 7-6.
Game one was controlled by Springfield from the very beginning. After two innings, they held a three run lead.
O’Fallon would cut the deficit to two in the third when Henry Zenor singled Jack Meyer in. The Lucky Horseshoes would then tag Christian Pownall for six runs in the fourth highlighted by a three run Jaison Andujar double.
Andujar would add one more run onto the Springfield lead in the fifth with a solo home run. Starting pitcher Davin Meier earns the victory and Christian Pownall is charged the loss.
In game two, the Hoots got the scoring started with Tyler Lang’s RBI single and Maury Weaver’s run scoring double.
Springfield would then respond with a five run top of the third highlighted by an Andujar RBI single and two run doubles from Collin Jennings and Harry Oden.
In the bottom of the fourth, O’Fallon would get back in the game when Weaver would triple in two runners to make the score 5-4. The next batter, Ryan Stevens would single Weaver in to knot the score at five.
After Springfield retook the lead in the top of the fifth, O’Fallon would respond with two of their own. Meyer would score on a balk and Weaver would hit a sacrifice fly to score Andy Niebrugge.
Brendan Ealy earns his first victory of the season and Clayton Woods is charged with the loss.
The Hoots move to 27-17 on the season and 10-6 in the second half. Springfield is now 17-25 overall and 9-7 in the second half.
O’Fallon is back in action on Friday night as they’ll host the Clinton LumberKings with first pitch coming your way at 6:35pm.
