Thrilling middle innings cost the Hoots

Marion, IL- Coming off a thrilling run-rule win over in-state rivals on opening day, the O’Fallon Hoots were defeated 8-3 against the Thrillville Thrillbillies. The Hoots traveled across the Mississippi for the clash against Prospect League Western Conference and couldn’t come away victorious in large part thanks to a devastating 5th inning.

Top Performers:

LHP Jack Werkowitch- 2.1 IP, 0 ER, 3 Ks

CF Jake McGhee- 1-5, 1 3B, RBI

RF Brady Vessells- 1-3, RBI, BB

What went wrong:

The Hoots got off to a great start as, in the first inning, Jake McGhee tripled home Nick Streurer from first before Brady Vessells singled MgChee home. Just like that it was 2-0 Hoots. Three innings later, Hayden Ralls drove home Christian Kiper on a sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit in half.

The 5th inning would spell disaster for O’Fallon as seven runs came across to score for the Thrillbillies. In the inning, what couldve been the inning ending groundout was misplayed leading to an onslaught of runs.

A Baker Shelhamer RBI-double cut into the lead but it was not enough to come away with the win. This result pushes both teams to 1-1 on the season as Thrillville lost on opening day.

The O’Fallon Hoots head back home to Carshield Field where they will welcome familiar foes in the Cape Catfish for the second game of the MRV Banks Show Me State Slugfest. The first pitch is set for 6:35.
