Alex Jung’s Dominant Pitching Helps Hoots to Mercy Rule Victory over Rockabillys

The Hoots had a complete team victory over the Jackson Rockabillys on Tuesday night, winning 12-1 in a seven inning mercy rule win. Alex Jung especially was amazing, tossing a complete game with seven strikeouts.

Top Performers:
Alex Jung- 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 7 Ks
Jaiden Glency- 2-2, 3 Rs
Ethan Cantareira- 1-3, 2B, 1 R, 3 RBIs

How It Happened:
The Hoots got off to an early lead in the bottom of first when Nick Bonczkowski doubled down the left field line to drive in Sam Paule and Jake McGhee, who had both walked. The Hoots added another run in the bottom of the second when Jaiden Glency scored on a Sam Paule RBI single.

Jaiden Glency, a recent addition to the Hoots roster, made his presence known on a little league home run in the fourth, with a ball that got by the center fielder Zavier Hatfield. Glency and Carson Shear scored on the play to make it 5-0. It was one of three runs Glency scored on the day.

The floodgates opened in the bottom of the sixth for the Hoots. After a couple runs scored on an errant pickoff and a groundout, the bats came alive. Nick Steurer had an RBI triple, then scored on a John Connors single. Bonczkowski and Brown walked, and then Ethan Cantareira smoked a double into the gap to put the Hoots up 12-0 and the put the mercy rule in effect.

That would be more than enough for Alex Jung, who continued his stellar pitching run by tossing the complete game, only allowing a single run in the top of the seventh on a Nick Tobin RBI double. He was also helped by some gold star defense. Nick Steurer made great plays in the second and third, showing off his range. But the highlight came in the sixth, with Griffin Brown crashing into the wall on a Ayden Makarus drive and hanging on to make the catch. All of this contributed to a 12-1 win for the Hoots.

The Hoots will take their now five game winning streak on the road against the first place Cape Catfish, before returning home to Carshield Field to play the Alton River Dragons on Thursday.
