Wednesday Night Road Victory Fueled by Hoots Relief Pitching, Homers from Bonczkowski and Brown

Cape Girardeau, MO – Up against an opponent with one of the best records in the Prospect League, the O’Fallon Hoots worked their way to a solid 8-4 win over the Cape Catfish (18-7) on Wednesday night. The win put O’Fallon’s record above two games above .500 (13-11) for the season.

Hoots starter Keller Costello pitched three innings for the Hoots before he was removed. Costello only allowed three runs but was backed up by Jack Moore. The right-hander from St. Louis pitched 3 2/3 of an inning for O’Fallon, striking out five Catfish in a pitching win. After Moore, reliever Mason Lee earned his first save of the season.

After trailing by three through three innings, outfielder Griffin Brown hit a three-run home run for the Hoots to tie the game. In the fifth inning, two-time hitter of the week Nick Bonczkowski hit a three-run home run himself to give the Hoots a 6-3 edge. The Hoots scored an additional run in both the sixth and eighth innings to widen the gap. Despite five innings of work, Cape’s Sean Williams was handed the loss in his start after he surrendered six runs (five of which were earned).

The Hoots play Thursday at 6:35 p.m. The Alton River Dragons are in O’Fallon to play the Hoots at CarShield Field. Watch the game live on the Prospect League Network. Fans can also buy tickets online on ofallonhoots.com or at the gate.
