Estopare’s Good Start Not Enough as Hoots Drop Game to the Cornbelters 10-4

The O’Fallon Hoots fell to the Normal Cornbelters for the second straight time at home, this one by the score of 10-4.

Nathan Estopare had a solid outing for the Hoots, going six and two thirds innings while striking out six. He gave up four total runs, with the Cornbelters getting two in the first on three hits. The Hoots answered back in the bottom of the inning, with Nick Bonczkowski continuing his hot hitting by driving in two to tie the game.

The game stayed close until the later innings, with the Hoots scoring one to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Cornbelters tied it in the top of the sixth, and then took the lead in the top of the seventh when they scored three runs in an inning where the Hoots used four different pitchers.

Griffin Brown drove in a run with a double in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cornbelters put the game out of reach in the ninth with four runs, three of them coming on a home run by Ben Voegele. Jake McGhee singled to start off the ninth, but the Hoots were shut down after that to end the game.

The O’Fallon Hoots will face the Cape Catfish for two games on Tuesday and Wednesday. They will return to Carshield Field on Thursday, June 11th, for a doubleheader against the Jackson Rockabillies.
