Hoots Conclude 2024 Season with 13-7 Loss against Cape

The Hoots finish the season with a 29-27 record but fall short of the Prospect League Playoffs.

The O’Fallon Hoots are defeated by the Cape Catfish by a final score of 13-7.

The Hoots found themselves playing “catchup” consistently throughout the contest that lasted over three hours.

Cordell Coburn’s RBI double gave the Catfish an early lead in the game. A second run would score on the play due to a Hoots error.

O’Fallon cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first on an RBI Ryan Malzahn sacrifice fly.

Cape would score two more runs in the second inning to make the score 4-1.

The Hoots would knot things up in the third inning thanks in large part to three straight hits from the heart of the lineup.

The Catfish would take the lead back with three runs combined over the fourth and fifth innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kyle Byrne would club the final home run of the Hoots season to make the score 7-6, Catfish.

The Catfish would once again respond in the seventh inning with three runs when Hoots Reliever Joshua Stratton walked in two.

After O’Fallon scored one more run in the eighth, the Catfish would score three to take a commanding 13-7 lead.

Raymond Ochoa earns his first victory of the season and Hoots starter Brayden Rubel finishes the season with a 1-3 record.

The Cape Catfish will play in the South Division Championship Game against the Thrillville Thrillbillies on August 1st.

Meanwhile, the Hoots season comes to an end with a record of 29-27.
