Cape Girardeau, MO- The Hoots traveled down the I-55 for a big double-header against in-state rivals the Cape Catfish and fell in both games, 4-1, and 8-7 respectively.
The then leagues leader in ERA, Jake Collier, started the first game for the Hoots and pitched well outside of giving up back-to-back home runs in the first inning to Hayden Nazarenus and Collin Sankpeil. He was outdueled by Trenton Chenard who almost pitched a complete game shutout if not for Sam Paule’s RBI single to knock him out of the game in the seventh. Catfish soon closed out the game, winning 4-1.
O’Fallon started game two well after taking a 3-2 lead in the 5th inning thanks to a Nick Streurer RBI single. This lead didn’t last long as Cape scored five runs in the bottom of the 5th highlighted by more Sankpeil magic. Streurer drove in two more runs in the sixth before scoring himself making it a one run game. Unfortunately for the Hoots it was too little too late as the Catfish survived winning 8-7.
