O’Fallon, MO – The Alton River Dragons had some runners on throughout their seven-inning journey against the O’Fallon Hoots on Tuesday night. Yet, the Hoots prevented the visitors from touching the plate in seven innings at CarShield Field, winning 10-0.
The strikeout was the biggest feature for O’Fallon’s pitching staff. Hoots pitchers totaled 13 strikeouts, and starter Austin Szverra notched nine of these strikeouts. Relievers Carter Hollingsworth, Cameron Mosier, Bronco Whitt and Jack Moore pitched after Szverra.
Alton’s Ben Barfield went just three innings before he was removed. Barfield allowed two runs and the pitching behind him would leak runs, as well. O’Fallon’s offense was patient and powerful. First baseman John Connors walked four times. Left fielder Tyler Macon doubled two times. Both Nick Stuerer and Jaiden Glency hit a triple and Samuel Paule (Missouri Baptist) hit his second home run of the season in the seventh inning.
The Hoots will take Wednesday off before a doubleheader against the Cape Catfish on Thursday. First pitch of Game 1 Thursday is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. at Capaha Field.
