Jackson, TN – It’s almost a four-and-a-half-hour drive to the Ballpark at Jackson from the O’Fallon Hoots home at CarShield Field. A long way from home, the Hoots lost both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Jackson Rockabillys.
A makeup game from July 3, the Rockabillys defeated the Hoots 5-4 in eight innings in Game 1. The teams traded blows early on, with Jackson taking a 1-0 lead in the first before the Hoots dropped two runs in the fourth to grab the lead. With a tie game at 3-3 after seven innings, Hoots infielder John Connors doubled home Tyler Macon to take a 4-3. Down to their final three outs, the Rockabillys’ Blaise Priester tied the game with a sac fly to right field to tie the game. Then, right fielder Bryce Thompson singled up the middle to bring in Zach Robinson. Thompson’s RBI single clinched a 5-4 win for Jackson.
After Game 1, the day’s second game played out to be a close game, as well. Yet, the Rockabillys closed out a Saturday sweep with a 3-2 win. The game was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Jackson’s Peyton Wooods doubled to right center field, driving in second baseman Bryce Messer. In the top of the seventh, Jackson’s Elias Hachem earned a save and struck out William Zareh to end the game just after 11:00 p.m.
The Hoots will take the All-Star break with the rest of the league until Thursday, July 9 when O’Fallon plays Thrillville at home at 6:35 p.m.
