Lafayette, IN – Standout slugger Nick Bonczkowski joined seven other power hitters in the Prospect League’s Home Run Derby on Monday night in Lafayette, Indiana at Loeb Stadium.
A day before the All-Star Game, Bonczkowski represented the Hoots in Lafayette with his distance. This season, the Lindenwood commit has 11 home runs (second in the league) and 47 RBI (first in the league). Bonczkowski hit with Wally Diaz (Terre Haute), Griffin Novacek (Springfield), Brodie Short (Quincy), Hayden Nazarenus (Cape), Gavin Awbrey (Clinton), Gabe Boyd (Lafeyette) and Brayden Giesler (Dubois County). In his home ballpark, Boyd hit 18 total home runs and won the contest. Boyd beat Wally Diaz in the final round 6-3.
Bonczkowski will play in the All-Star Game on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. with three other Hoots. Infielder Samuel Paule (Missouri Baptist) and pitchers Jake Collier (Crowder) and Drew Politte (Bradley) will join Bonckowski in Lafayette. Fans can watch the game on prospectleaguenetwork.com.
