Hoots Keep On Winning

O’FALLON, MO.– The Hoots continue their all-time consecutive win streak with another seven-inning victory over Quincy.

The Doggy Paddlers plated a run in the top of the first inning. After that, it was all Hoots. 

O’Fallon answered with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first, and scored two runs in both the second and third innings. 

Ryan Berry’s first start as a Hoot was successful as he threw a season high four innings, only allowing one run and six hits, while striking out four.

The Hoots put up four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 13-1. The O’Fallon bullpen did its job and closed out the game without allowing a run.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Quincy struck first, scoring one on two hits in the opening frame. 
  • The O’Fallon offense responded. Will Geary led off the inning with a single, and Daniel Gierer got hit by a pitch. Both runners stole a base, putting them on second and third. Mitchell Bonczkowski singled to left, scoring both runners. William Zareh doubled, advancing Bonczkowski to third. With two outs, Cade Grevengoed reached on an error, scoring Bonczkowski. Mac Floyd also reached on an error that brought Zareh around to score, Hoots led 5-1.
  • The Hoots kept on hitting. Geary led off the bottom of the second with a single. Gierer hit a single and stole second. Bonczkowski singled to score Geary. Zareh doubled, scoring Zareh. 
  • O’Fallon scored another two in the third. Michael Callahan walked to lead off the inning. Geary doubled and advanced to third on an error that scored Callahan. Daniel Gierer hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Geary. 
  • The Hoots plated another four runs in the fifth. Callahan walked, and Geary tripled, scoring him. Gierer walked, and Baden Hackworth singled, scoring Geary. Bonczkowski singled to score Gierer. With one out, Grevengoed singled, scoring Hackworth.
  • Hoots closed out the seventh and took home the 13-1 win.

 NOTABLES

  • Ryan Berry threw his most innings in a single outing this year, during his first start of the season. His final line was four innings pitched, allowing one run and six hits, striking out four.
  • Will Geary had four hits, including a double and a triple. His batting average increased to .394 on the year. The highest of any Hoots player and any qualified hitter in the Prospect League. 
  • Mitchell Bonczkowski had three singles and four RBIs. That moves his RBI total to 41 on the year, the most of any Hoots player. He’s tied for the second-most RBIs in the Prospect League. 
  • O’Fallon has now scored 11 or more runs in their last six games.
  • The Hoots continue to extend the longest win streak in Prospect League history. They have now won 16 straight.
