Walks and Errors Sink Hoots in 10-4 Loss to Catfish

The O’Fallon Hoots lost to the Cape Catfish 10-4 in the game in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday night.

Nick Bonczkowski, the reigning Prospect League Hitter of the Week, continued his scorching season with a two run home run in the second inning to give the Hoots a quick 2-0 lead.

The Catfish responded quickly, however, when Andres Matias drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.

Keller Costello continued his solid season overall, as he went four innings while only allowing one run. He also struck out two and walked two.

The wheels fell off in the fifth and sixth for the Hoots. Alex Jung pitched one and two thirds innings of relief. He did not allow a hit, but he did walk five, as well as a wild pitch which resulted in a run scored. He allowed six total runs, four of them earned, as another scored on an error by Nick Steurer.

The Hoots managed a run in the sixth on a Brady Vessells single. They also scored in the seventh on a John Connors single as they attempted to keep the game close.

But the Catfish scored a total of four times in the 8th innings, punctuated by a Hayden Nazarenus RBI triple down the right field line to bring the score to its eventual final of 10-4.

The Hoots will face the Catfish again on Wednesday night, before heading back to Carshield Field to face the Jackson Rockabillys in a doubleheader on Thursday.
